Oz @ 8:33 PM
We think we know evil when we see it,
We recognize its voice,
We’re hypnotized by its stare,
Like puppets.
It can mask its self,
Mold itself,
And become someone who you trust,
Evil doesn’t have boundaries,
Because after all it’s wicked.
I’ve literally been waiting years to see the musical production of Wicked. I’ve grown up with the Wizard of Oz on my side and just watching a play based on the movie was incredible. I got to see a different side of things. A different side of people. A different side of the witches of Oz.
The story line was the tale of two girls, Elphaba and Glinda. One of course was born green and the other was a perky blond since birth. They both somehow ended up becoming best friends. The whole story revolved around the power of their friendship, and seeing life through the dark side. After all, darkness isn’t always evil. The play was written by Winnie Holzman and it was based around the original story of The Wizard of Oz. The neat thing about that was the fact that it didn’t contradict with the existing movie and everything pieced together in the end.
It was fascinating watching the characters I’ve grown up loving, pouring their hearts out into what they believed in. And trust me; I did not leave the theater disappointed. Every second, I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nails and crying. The characters really touched me from a place of real and taught me a whole new meaning to life. We all judge each other in, but really it’s all out of fear. Fear of being vulnerable to others, so we begin to point fingers. Which was what Wicked was all about, ignoring the rest and fighting for what you believe.
"Remember, darkness does not always equate to evil, just as light does not always bring good."
