Jane @ 5:57 PM

This Friday I performed my very first scripted scene.

The Client is a scene between two lawyers. One is a well known player of the field while, the other is still a rookie but has the mind of a wise man. Beliefs, values and morals are tested of the characters as they must decide whether to take on a case. A case that clearly shows the defendant as guilty.

For this scene I got to work with an amazing actress and good friend, Ramona. She’s a very talented young actress, so being able to feed off of each other’s energy on stage, was really something great. I think the two of us made a really good team too. We always were supportive of each other and worked really hard. Every decision we made was together and we made sure we were both comfortable in whatever we were doing, which is the most important thing about working in a partnership.

As for the scene itself, I really connected to my character form a place of real. The character I played was names Jane and she was something alright. She is new to the law world but has the makings of a great leader. She’s a confident woman, who always tries her best to bring out the good in situations. Jane’s clever in many ways as well. She ends up bringing out the excellence in just about anyone, and that balances out her cocky attitude. When I first ran through the script, a light bulb went off in my head after reading about her. Her personality is a spitting replica of mine as a child. The innocence in her words, the way she responds and her intellect level just reminds me of who I was. I used to be cunning as a child and quite arrogant actually. I remember being constantly told that I was wise for my years and I saw that exact quality within Jane. It was like looking in a mirror.

I have also been put in many situations where my own values were tested. I had to make choices of whether to do something or not. The consequences I could have faced were heavy, but just like the characters in “The Client” I had to do what I had to. Just like them I contemplated for so long about what was right and what was wrong. I tested myself just like they did to see if I were making the right decision. And in the end I’d know I’d end up making the right choice, no matter what the outcome I listened to myself, just as Jane did.
