Time Capsule @ 1:46 PM

An actor is like a time capsule. Filled with memories, unforgettable moments and emotions. A true actor is able to pull out these experiences and put it into their acting. Things can always be added and taken out of the time capsule, but the emotions will always stay.

The essence of the actor is the spirit, the being, the soul. They pull upon their very essence within their acting to portray certain emotions. Emotions of love, of hate, or sadness. The time capsule contains them all, and when the time is right, we pull upon that emotion and put it into the characters we play. That is a gift ever actor possesses. By taking out those emotions from within us, and into a character, we are able to give the roles depth and reality. The audience will feel the emotion, and be in the moment along with an actor. You know you’re in the moment when you realize you’ve stopped acting and just started feeling. If you lose yourself in a character and start feeling what they are really feeling, the audience will be able to relate too.  If the role you are playing had lost a loved one, and it stirred a memory of you loosing someone you loved as well, the pain and suffering seen will but nothing but pure. The audience will feel that pureness and see the sadness in your eyes and be pulled in completely.

I’ve hit that emotion just this year. It takes time. I realized that I had so much sadness hidden inside of me that I tried to push away. But while I was doing an acting exercise a couple weeks ago, I noticed that I became a real actor that day. I was supposed to see someone I was angry at inside of the person standing in front of me, but somewhere along the way my yelling turned to sobbing and I became scared. I couldn’t stop my emotions and realized that just by pulling on that one memory, I could express things I could never before.

Acting is the like key to the soul. It made me laugh, cry, tried, frustrated and surprised all in one. Through this art form you can express everything you’ve kept within you for so long. Just like I have.
